This just in from Sally Suzuki:
Due to the unexpectedly large size of the project, we had to divide it into three sections, Part One, Part Two, and Part Three.
And although we had originally intended to write our own entries, we've decided to use some of the pre-existing material from various online sources, including The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, The Kokugakuin Encyclopedia of Shinto, Encyclopedia Britannica, the National Diet Library, and the Japanese Literature Home Page, as there are only four of us working on over 1000 entries. In such cases, the source is cited at the end of the entry.Again, the project is still far from completion, so if anyone would like to contribute, please contact either Beholdmyswarthyface or me.

If the info is already available from other sources online, what's the point of making/using a Beholdmyswarthyface Encyclopedia?

Ian Hogarth,
I'm glad you asked. First, the pre-existing entries are spread out all over the internet, so I thought it might be a good idea to gather all that information in one place. And second, the pre-existing entries combined make up only about 20% of the total number of Beholdmyswarthyface Encyclopedia entries. The overwhelming majority of entries a) will be written by us and b) have never been included in any encyclopedia to date.
And Anonymous,
I'm glad you didn't hurt nobody.

You might want to check out the book Modern Japan: An Encyclopedia of History, Culture, and Nationalism. It includes about half the entries in your encyclopedia.
You also might want to take a look at the Concise Dictionary of Modern Japanese History .
